  • Thoughts on 420HC as Blade Steel - BladeForums. com
In a lot of ways I consider 420HC as "stainless steel for carbon steel lovers" in that it delivers fairly similar performance to low alloy carbon steels, but with a stainless aspect added
  • 420hc. Good? Bad? - BladeForums. com
420hc is fine user steel I hate on Buck for their crappy fit and finish but they probably have the best example of this steel I had one of the 420HC Kershaw Links that I used to practice sharpening with
  • Opinions on Bucks 420HC - BladeForums. com
420HC isn't 420HC at all, if it has 0 8% carbon content; 420HC tops out around 0 55% carbon, by any meaningful definition The inventor of 420HC, Latrobe Specialty Steel, only spec'd 0 46% carbon for it (data sheet linked below)
  • Seems that 420HC is way better than 1095 according to the article at . . .
Cold Steel has been touting the performance of 4034 steel Even Demko was enthused with it 4034 is kissing cousin to 420HC Certainly Buck, Gerber and Cold Steel have made a lot of reasonably tough blades using 420HC, especially Cold Steel and Gerber For the past 25 years Buck has used a blade geometry that maximizes edge retention
  • 420J2 vs. 420HC: the difference? - BladeForums. com
The steel is the heart of the knife, and folks will give any info they think is in their favor If it's hard to find out details, that's almost always because they're nothing the maker wants you to know When a knife is made from a good steel the company will make that abundantly clear (look at Kershaw's knife actually named the "Ti-ATS34")
  • Which do you guys think is tougher, S35VN or 420HC?
Hi guys - Curious which do you think is tougher as far as breaking chipping between these steels? Thanks!
  • 420HC steel? - BladeForums. com
420HC as heat-treated by Bos Buck is an excellent everyday steel IMHO Sharpens far more easily than Buck's old 440C, and holds an edge even better than 440C in CATRA tests It is tough, highly rust resistant, easy to sharpen and takes a scary edge
  • 440A vs. 420HC - BladeForums. com
440A and 420HC are fairly similar in daily use when they are both made right The reason 420HC has a better image than 440A is that 420HC is used more exclusively (mainly by Buck) and is therefore more consistent in its quality 440A on the other hand is used in $2 knives and $50 and the blade quality varies widely
  • 420HC vs D2 - BladeForums. com
What do you value most in your knife steel, toughness, edge retention, rust resistance? If it is toughness, 420HC, with the Bos HT, is way ahead of both D2 and S35VN S35Vn has very slightly higher toughness scores than D2, but neither is Close to 420HC For edge retention, again S35VN is slightly better than D2
  • Buck - A fair review of the 110 and 420HC | BladeForums. com
I mentioned recently in a thread somewhere that 420HC is a junk steel, EVEN with the famous BOS heat treatment There were a few members that quickly fetched their torches and pitchforks in defense of Papa Buck I will admit that it's about the best VERSION of 420, but the best version of a
