iridium    音标拼音: [ɪr'ɪdiəm]
n. 铱

iridium
n 1: a heavy brittle metallic element of the platinum group;
used in alloys; occurs in natural alloys with platinum or
osmium [synonym: {iridium}, {Ir}, {atomic number 77}]

iridium \i*rid"i*um\ ([-i]*r[i^]d"[i^]*[u^]m), n. [NL., fr. L.
iris, iridis, the rainbow. So called from the iridescence of
some of its solutions. See {Iris}.] (Chem.)
A rare metallic element of atomic number 77, of the same
group as platinum, which it much resembles, being
silver-white and indifferent to most corrosive agents, but
harder, more brittle, and with a higher melting temperature
(2410[deg] C, versus platinum 1772[deg] C). With the
exception of osmium, it is the heaviest substance known, its
specific gravity being 22.4. Symbol Ir. Atomic weight 192.22.
[1913 Webster PJC]

Note: Iridium usually occurs as a native alloy with osmium
(iridosmine or osmiridium), which may occur alone or
with platinum. Iridium, as an alloy with platinum, is
used in bushing the vents of heavy ordnance. It is also
used for the points of gold pens, and in a finely
powdered condition (iridium black), for painting
porcelain black.
[1913 Webster]

iridium
Symbol: Ir
Atomic number: 77
Atomic weight: 192.217
Very hard and brittle, silvery metallic transition element. It has a
yellowish cast to it. Salts of iridium are highly colored. It is the
most corrosion resistant metal known, not attacked by any acid, but is
attacked by molten salts. There are two natural isotopes of iridium, and
4 radioisotopes, the most stable being Ir-192 with a half-life of 73.83
days. Ir-192 decays into {platinum}, while the other radioisotopes decay
into {osmium}. Iridium is used in high temperature apparatus, electrical
contacts, and as a hardening agent for platinum. Discovered in 1803 by
Smithson Tennant in England. The name comes from the Greek word iris,
which
means rainbow. Iridium metal is generally non-toxic due to its relative
unreactivity, but iridium compounds should be considered highly toxic.

  • Reasonable Iridium Plug change interval | BobIsTheOilGuy
What would be a reasonable Iridium Plug change interval? I have Denso Iridium Power II's, which Denso rated for 30k miles back in 2014 or so when I put them in I rechecked and now Denso Europe gives them just 20k miles I heard a lot of people claim 60-70k miles on them are no problem Now the
  • Denso Iridium TT vs long life, which one is better?
The TT series is the aftermarket adaption of the Super-Ignition Plug Denso created for the Toyota D4-S engines, minus the side electrodes I’ve used the Platinum TTs in a Subaru, haven’t tried the Iridium TT Denso seems to push them more than Iridium Power iridium TTs have platinum on the ground electrode, like the OE plugs
  • NGK Iridium IX vs Laser Iridium | BobIsTheOilGuy
Laser has iridium center electrode with small platinum disc welded to the ground electrode A Mazda TSB from 2012 indicates that this type of plug is required for Skyactiv engines even though NGK's site offers more that one type for those engines
  • Iridium vs Ruthenium spark plugs | BobIsTheOilGuy
Funny, a few weeks ago I bought the same Ruthenium plugs, to replace the Iridium plugs in our '09 Mazda (with the same 2 3 l engine) Per NGK, G-Power Platinum plugs are good for 60K km, Iridium IX 100K km, and Iridium Laser 120K km
  • Spark Plugs: NGK IX Iridium v. NGK Double Platinum
NGK ITR4A15 = Double Iridium Long Life Plug Note: The center Iridium electrode is a fine wire because Iridium itself does not conduct electricity as well as copper; therefore the diameter needs to be made smaller to make up for the increased resistance to flow, but being that it's such a tough element, it can be made thinner
  • Do I really need iridium spark plugs? | BobIsTheOilGuy
So my car is due for plugs, and the stock replacement iridium and CA emissions specific plugs are $15 each, even from discount sites However, there are alternative platinums (which are also NGK just like OEM) for only $5 each I know iridium lasts longer than platinum, but I don’t plan on owning my car for 100k more miles anyway
  • Clarification on Upgrading Spark Plugs | BobIsTheOilGuy
In some cars, the use of iridium plugs is important because the gap is different, and the life is longer I would stick with what the car came with No one makes iridium plugs for a '32 Packard for example, and those "copper" plugs have a nickel alloy electrode, which is enough for the 6 volt ignition system and 6 5:1 compression
  • Iridium vs Ruthenium spark plugs | Page 5 | BobIsTheOilGuy
Nearly all NGK spark plugs, including precious metal iridium and platinum plugs, have a copper core to increase the electrode durability Special nickel alloys, platinum, and iridium electrodes, along with copper cores are all used to enhance durability – durability meaning how long a spark plug will last before it needs to be replaced
  • Champion vs NGK Spark Plugs ?? Iridium | BobIsTheOilGuy
I was going to buy the NGK 95770 Iridium plugs at $13 99 ea and I also saw Champion 9409 Iridium plugs for $6 69 ea wow, what is the difference ?, are the NGK plugs worth twice as much ?? I also saw a Champion 9412 Iridium for $7 99 ea Also, I want to make sure that I have the correct plugs
  • NGK V-Power or Iridium? | BobIsTheOilGuy
I would only go with the factory iridium spark plugs or the ones specifically listed in the manual unless something has changed or GM made a mistake (unlikely) Looks like you need AC Delco 41-985 According the spark plug manufacturers, standard copper plugs can go about 30K, platinum plugs go 60-100K, and iridium about 120K
